8th May 2008

Water great height and clarity, very few fish around, a few river trout showing in back water and along shore, however, plenty of deer, one did a real number on a clients truck. They will be going back to Montreal with stories about this trip and a repair bill to prove it. We also have a moose grazing in the area, by the way the deer survived, is grazing away awaiting it's next victim.

6th May 2008

Good day to be on the Miramichi River. 20 degrees plus, water good level and clear. Fishing remains slow although report (2) taken Hickeys Pool and a number of fish seen rolling in the morning, (2) taken McCarty Island toward evening couple observed rolling.
Some trout seen taking off the surface in back waters, so it might be fun to try s floating line on them with a "hatch fly."

5th May 2008

Miramichi at an excellent level for spring fishing. Check with one boat on river all day, no luck with the fish. Water temperature around 39 degrees. We had to make do with watching deer and moose along the shoreline.
Down river camps are reporting similar success stories, however being very optimistic, in the belief that the run has yet to start. My honest opinion is that there was a lower than normal fall run and it is being reflected in the spring return, however, even at the worst, stragglers would have remained and we will pick them up for the next week or so, usually the larger salmon swinging into slack water for rest or on the edge of strong water.

4th May 2008

Miramichi River now at a good spring level and clear. One outfitter boat claiming three (3) salmon in the evening.

3'd May 2008

Miramichi River dropped approx. 24" since high water level Thursday past. The water is clearing nicely but still silty in the strong water.

One outfitter boat claiming (3) grilse in the morning and a nice trout. I observed them hooking another around 16:00 hr.
I tried my luck around 16:30 and hooked (1) grilse. We never got the nice day promised for Saturday so it was a short stay on the water.
Reports of a few fish being taken upriver so they all didn't go out with the high water.

2nd May 2008

Waters in the Miramichi River have dropped 18 inches in past 24 hours and are clearing. Number of boats on the river, most cruising, fishing remains slow.
One outfitter boat landed (5) five including a very large salmon and the guide claimed salmon were jumping in the evening.
